Methodology

How preparation and analysis work.

Start with a real application. Use your resume and the job posting to prepare relevant evidence, then draw on deeper career insights when you need them.

Start with application preparation

  1. Compare a real posting: bring your resume and the job requirements. The free preview compares wording and shows quoted source evidence without requiring an account.
  2. Save and return: create a free account to save your application brief, edit your evidence notes, work through the checklist and download your preparation notes.
  3. Add deeper support: paid plans provide contextual AI analysis and tools for career planning, resume improvement and interview preparation. Compare current plan access.

The free comparison detects exact wording. It can miss synonyms and does not establish whether you meet a requirement. Review each match and gap against your actual experience.

Where career assessment fits

You can prepare an application without completing a diagnosis. Career readiness assessments provide another perspective on your positioning, clarity and evidence when you want broader guidance. The quick resume check gives preliminary signals; a contextual assessment uses your target role and supplied context. Neither knows why an employer rejected an application or predicts an interview outcome.

Six areas explored in the career assessment

Market Positioning

Do you look like the person for the roles you want?

Reviews how clearly your experience and stated goals point toward the roles you want. Use the suggestions to decide which strengths need more context.

Recruiter Clarity

Can a screener understand you in the first pass?

Reviews whether your title, headline and structure make your work, level of responsibility and next direction easy to understand.

Role Alignment

How well do you match the specific role (when you provide one)?

With a job description, reviews the relationship between the stated requirements and the experience described in your materials. It cannot know unstated employer priorities.

Proof of Impact

Do you show results, or just responsibilities?

Reviews how clearly your materials describe your contribution and supported results. Include numbers only when you can substantiate them; specific qualitative evidence also matters.

Keyword Signal

Will you surface in the searches that matter?

Reviews relevant terminology in the supplied materials. Use terms only where they accurately describe your experience. This is not an employer ATS test.

Interview Preparation

Can you explain your experience with relevant examples?

Suggests topics and examples to prepare from your background and target role. It cannot predict the questions an interviewer will ask or the outcome.

Assessment scores summarize model interpretations of the information you supply. Use the suggested priorities to guide your review, not as a verified ranking against other candidates or a prediction of hiring outcomes.

How the analysis works

  1. 1. Compare the requirements with your evidence

The free application preview checks wording in your resume against the posting. Review the quoted evidence and confirm what it actually demonstrates.

  2. 2. Add the context only you know

Write evidence notes and identify details you need to verify. A missing phrase does not prove you lack a skill, and a matching phrase does not prove proficiency.

  3. 3. Use deeper analysis when useful

Optional AI assessments suggest areas to review in your positioning, resume and interview preparation. Simulated recruiter views are model-generated perspectives, not reviews by an employer.

  4. 4. Review, save and return

Check every suggested edit against your experience. Save your brief and notes with a free account, then return to your preparation as you learn more about the role.

What we deliberately don’t do

  • No fabrication. Suggested edits should use your supplied facts. Check every output and remove any unsupported claim before using it.
  • No keyword stuffing. Use relevant terminology only when it accurately describes your experience.
  • No auto-applying. CareerStanding finds and ranks roles; you decide where your name goes.
  • No guarantees of interviews. No honest platform can promise outcomes. The tools support your preparation; employers make their own decisions.
